Sara Pottery designs and produces unique handcrafted functional and decorative ware using hand painting, appliques, & carving. Sara Pottery is a small studio occupying a portion of a seventy year old log cabin that overlooks the Shark River on the New Jersey shore. Sara has been making pottery and jewelry in New Jersey since 1987, but has been working with clay since 1978.

All pottery is handmade using the wheel and other hand building techniques. Hand painting using underglaze stains is used to embellish the clay surface. The berry bowls, lasagna bakers, dinnerware, soup tureens, planters, oil candles, canisters, decorative vases and other items are fired to a high temperature and finished with lead-free glazes. Decorative styles include floral, fruit, olive, seashell and fish patterns. The ware is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe. The use of quality materials coupled with skill, care, and vision assure unique products of high quality and durability.

She participates in juried art & craft shows in the NJ region. Sara plans to retire and go out of business on Jan 1, 2014. She is no longer accepting special orders.

Sara acquired basic pottery skills in California, living and working in the small town of Idyllwild , which is nestled in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. In 1984, She traveled and worked as a potter in Israel, using the materials and techniques of the region. On arrival back to the States a year later, she integrated her ceramics career with teaching, including several years as professor of ceramics at Monmouth University. At present she is concentrating on studio work full time.
